Meet Rebecca Coleman of Clark Creek ES STEM Academy

A 16-year educator, Ms. Coleman teaches English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for students in grades K-5. She began her teaching career in Bartow County, before joining CCSD where she taught Early Intervention Program (one year), kindergarten (seven years), and second grade (three years) before taking on her new role this school year.

What inspired you to become a teacher?

In second grade, I had a dental procedure that left me with a lisp. It was an awkward and vulnerable stage, but my teacher took a special interest in me. She made me feel truly seen, heard, and valued at a time when I needed it most. Her kindness and care stayed with me, inspiring me to create that same safe and affirming space for the children I teach today!

What do you find most rewarding about your job?

My favorite — and most rewarding — part of teaching is building meaningful relationships with my students and their families. I love the joy in their eyes when they share important milestones with me, whether they happen inside the classroom or in their lives beyond it. Those connections are what make this work so special.

How do you elevate the excellence in your classroom?

Elevating excellence in my classroom means creating more than a place to learn — it’s building a community where growth, challenge, and inspiration are part of our daily rhythm. I believe in setting high standards not as distant goals, but as milestones we work toward together. Side by side, we celebrate effort, embrace challenges, and discover that excellence is not a destination, but a journey we take together.
