CCSD Celebrates Employees with Service Recognition Program
The Cherokee County School District this school year began a new program to recognize employees’ important service to the community.
The CCSD Milestones Service Awards celebrate employees’ dedication to serving the community through their vocation.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said he and the School Board are committed to recognizing excellence as a part of the district’s #CCSDfam culture. This new initiative provides one more way to recognize and honor dedicated employees.
“These employees have demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to our students, parents and the entire community for more than 10 years – some for more than 35 years,” Superintendent Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “Their roles as educators and support staff have played an integral part in making CCSD one of the best districts in the nation. They’ve seen many changes and persevered in the face of challenges -- especially over these past few years, inspired and motivated students and coworkers alike, and are deserving of praise and recognition. I deeply appreciate their passion for education and commitment to shaping the minds of past generations, current generations and generations to come!”
The idea for service milestone awards was proposed by a CCSD employee, Holly Springs ES STEM Academy teacher Joe Lemmo, and supported through funding from the Cherokee County Educational Foundation (CCEF).
Every one of CCSD’s more than 5,000 employees received a branded CCSD lanyard through the new program. All employees with more than 10 years of service received a pin honoring their service milestone achievement: 10 years (400 employees), 15 years (1,000), 20 years (475), 25 years (200), 30 years (35) and 35 years (10). The pins were designed to be added to the lanyard but are a gift to the honoree to be worn or displayed in whichever way he or she chooses.
Over the past two months, schools and central office departments held special ceremonies to recognize employees with their service pins. Some also celebrated honorees with posts on social media, schoolwide announcements and other recognitions.
At the start of each school year, employees who have reached new service milestone levels will receive those additional pins. New CCSD employees will receive branded lanyards as part of their welcome to the district.
